Methuen Employees, Retirees to Join State GIC Under New Health Insurance Pact
DATELINE — METHUEN
Mayor D.J. Beauregard and the Methuen Public Employee Committee announced Thursday a ratified health insurance agreement that will move city employees, retirees, and their families into the state's Group Insurance Commission — a significant structural shift in how the city delivers benefits.
TOWN HALL
The agreement, announced jointly by Mayor Beauregard and Public Employee Committee President Kara Blatt, transitions city workers, retirees, and their dependents to the GIC, the state-administered health insurance pool that covers hundreds of thousands of public employees across Massachusetts. The move is being described as a "landmark" deal, suggesting it resolves what had been a long-standing negotiating priority between the city and its employee groups.
Also noted on the city's homepage: the Historic District Commission meeting previously scheduled has been relocated to 90 Hampshire St., effective June 25. Residents attending that meeting should plan for the new venue.
The city's Election Department is also actively recruiting poll workers for the September 1 and November 3, 2026 elections. Interested residents can call 978-983-8515 to apply.
