Saugus Schools Set Last Day for June 18 After Snow Makeups Stretch Year

SAUGUS — The Saugus school year wraps up Wednesday, June 18, for all three district buildings — with moving-on ceremonies, final assessments, and early dismissals packed into the next few days — just as the public library rolls out its summer reading season.

SCHOOLS

The finish line for the 2025–26 school year is Wednesday for Belmonte STEAM Academy, Veterans Early Learning Center, and the Saugus Middle/High School Complex. Multiple days this week appear on the Belmonte calendar as snow-day makeups, a sign of how far into June this winter's weather pushed the academic calendar.

At Belmonte STEAM, the week builds toward Wednesday's close: summer reading assemblies for fourth and fifth graders run Monday, June 16, at 8:30 a.m., followed by second and third graders at 9 a.m. The fifth-grade moving-on ceremony is set for Tuesday, June 17. Final dismissal on June 18 is at 11:15 a.m. The building is closed Friday, June 19, for Juneteenth.

Saugus High School students sit for final assessments during a 12:30–1:30 p.m. window on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Veterans Early Learning Center holds an early dismissal at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and an early-release last day Wednesday. District-wide report cards are scheduled to go out June 24.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Saugus Public Library is shifting into summer mode. Its Adult Summer Reading program opens Sunday, June 22, and runs through August 14; adults 18 and older can log every book they finish online. Children's summer reading carries a Pokémon theme — "Gotta Read 'Em All!" — and teen programming continues with a Jewelry Swap on July 6 and Slime Time on July 20.

On Wednesday, June 18, the library hosts journalist and author Ted Reinstein for a talk titled "Greetings from Breed's Hill: Fact & Folklore on America's 250th," a well-timed program as the nation approaches its semiquincentennial. A photography exhibit, "Natural World," with work by Jordan Lavino, is currently on display. A Puzzle Exchange is also ongoing for visitors who want to swap puzzles. The library is closed Saturday, June 13.
