Saugus Schools Set June 18 as Last Day; Belmonte Assemblies Kick Off Monday

SAUGUS — Most Saugus students will ring out the school year Wednesday, June 18, with an event-packed stretch of final days ahead; the public library marked the same day by launching new summer programming announcements.

SCHOOLS

Monday is a snow makeup day at Belmonte STEAM Academy, but the calendar looks anything but remedial: the school hosts summer reading assemblies for all elementary grades, with fourth- and fifth-graders gathering at 8:30 a.m. and second- and third-graders following at 9 a.m. On Tuesday, June 17, Belmonte fifth-graders hold their moving-on ceremony. The school's last day is Wednesday, June 18, with early dismissal at 11:15 a.m.

Veterans Early Learning Center finishes the year June 18 as well, with early release beginning at 11:30 a.m. At Saugus High School, final assessments continue Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17–18, with students dismissed at 12:30 p.m. both days. The district will issue report cards June 24. Schools observe Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19; Belmonte's building will be closed.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Saugus Public Library posted a new program on June 15: Mahjong Lessons, a three-session series running Tuesdays, July 7, 14, and 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Reference Room. Instructor Amy Podhurst will lead the classes; registration is required.

Adult Summer Reading opens June 22 and runs through August 14. Adults 18 and up can log books online throughout the eight-week stretch.

On Wednesday, June 18, journalist and author Ted Reinstein presents "Greetings from Breed's Hill: Fact & Folklore on America's 250th" at the library — a timely look at history and myth surrounding the Revolutionary War's Battle of Bunker Hill as the nation approaches its semiquincentennial.
